Immigration Wait Times at Haneda and Narita
How long you wait at immigration depends almost entirely on how many flights land at once. Haneda and Narita handle this very differently — one publishes an official live wait time, the other does not. Here is where to look before you land, and what the numbers usually look like.
Haneda: check live traveler reports
Haneda publishes no official real-time immigration wait time. Its live congestion panel covers flight delays, road and rail conditions, and car-park occupancy — not the immigration hall.

Narita: official live wait times
Narita is the opposite: the airport publishes a near-real-time immigration wait time, broken out by terminal and wing and updated every few minutes. It is shown as a range — for example a 0–20 minute band — rather than an exact figure, and the airport notes it is an estimate. How long does it usually take?
Both airports clear most arrivals quickly. Japan's Immigration Services Agency publishes monthly statistics on how often the immigration wait stays under 20 minutes.
In December 2025 — the latest month published — 75% of arriving passengers at Haneda and 71% at Narita cleared immigration within 20 minutes (72% nationwide). The agency also noted that December 2025 saw about 3.46 million new foreign arrivals, a record for the month, which makes congestion more likely at peak times.
